The Kansas Jayhawks held the top spot in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll for one week. The latest NCAA basketball rankings are out and KU basketball is ranked No. 2 behind the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils. Ohio State is No. 3, San Diego State is No. 4, Texas is No. 5 and Pittsburgh is No. 6.
Last week the top six in the Coaches' poll went like this: Kansas, Texas, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Duke and San Diego State. Last week, the four top teams lost a game. KU lost to Kansas State on Monday, followed by Texas dropping a game in Lincoln to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Pittsburgh lost to St. John's while Ohio State dropped a Sunday game to Purdue.
Duke, Kansas and Ohio State sport identical 25-2 records, while San Diego State is 27-1, Texas is 23-4 and Pittsburgh is 24-3.
Duke received 19 first-place votes, Kansas had one, Ohio State had four, San Diego State had three, Texas had zero and Pittsburgh had four.
Kansas has a chance to run the table and if they do there will be a couple of more good wins in there. It plays Texas A&M and Missouri (in Columbia) to finish out the season. The Jayhawks host Oklahoma State on Monday night.
