College Basketball 2012: Kansas Jayhawks Coach Bill Self Compares Tyshawn Taylor To Sherron Collins

The Kansas Jayhawks have received a huge lift from their streaky lead guard Tyshawn Taylor, but with his masterful performance Tuesday vs. Baylor, the sky is the limit for Bill Self's basketball team.

During Bill Self's Wednesday press conference, the Kansas Jayhawks coach Self compared Tyshawn Taylor to former Jayhawk legend Sherron Collins. The current guard for KU has had his issues, especially with the turnovers, during his time at Lawrence. However, the performances that Taylor has put on in recent games is evoking responses that were reserved for the former lead guard of the Jayhawks just two years ago.

Following the Jayhawks (upset?) 92-74 victory over then undefeated Baylor Bears, Tom Keegan of the Lawrence Journal-World had an intriguing perspective on when the switch flipped for Taylor and when he finally woke up.

Nobody stopped him all night because Taylor’s quicker than Collins ever was. He’s Cool Papa Bell quick, as in gets out of bed to turn off the light switch on the other side of the room and is back under the covers before it’s dark.

Kansas coach Bill Self thought the world of the way Collins attacked, but he never invoked Allen Iverson’s name in making a quickness comparison. He did recently with Taylor.

Taylor doesn’t always exhibit Collins’ court savvy. Then again, Collins didn’t bat a thousand there, either. Both guys win so much more than they lose.

Taylor and his Jayhawks teammates will be taking their talents to Austin on Saturday to face the 12-5 Texas Longhorns.
