The 4-1 Kansas Jayhawks will attempt to win their fourth straight on Monday when they host the 2-2 San Jose State Spartans at Allen Fieldhouse. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. CT, with television coverage on ESPNU.
The Jayhawks are ranked No. 12 in this week's AP Poll. Aside from a loss to Michigan State at the Georgia Dome, Kansas has had little trouble with its early opponents. Kansas won last week's CBE Classic in Kansas City, pummeling Washington State 78-41 in the semifinals and outlasting Saint Louis 73-59 in the final. Freshman guard Ben McLemore (14.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.6 apg) and senior center Jeff Withey (13.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 5.0 bpg) lead a balanced Kansas attack that has eight players averaging more than 16 minutes per game.
San Jose State rebounded from two close season-opening losses with an overtime victory over Weber State and a 40-point blowout of UC Santa Cruz. The Spartans have done a good job of controlling the defensive boards this year, but have struggled mightily at the free throw stripe. Senior guard James Kinney is averaging 21.0 points per game, and junior forward Chris Cunningham adds 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.
