Kansas Football Recruiting: V'Angelo Bentley Reportedly Headed To Illinois Instead Of Jayhawks

Charlie Weis might be losing one of his targets today as Matt Tait has word that V’Angelo Bentley is reportedly ready to sign with Illinois rather than Kansas. It’s a tale of two new coaches fighting for their first class and it appears Tim Beckman is going to win this one over Weis.

V’Angelo Bentley is listed as the No. 54 cornerback in the country and he certainly would have helped a porous pass defense that ultimately led to Turner Gill’s demise at Kansas. Bentley can also help in the return game.

Rivals also confirms Bentley’s signing and notes, “When Tim Beckman took over as head coach at Illinois in December he already knew the recruiting landscape in the Midwest from having led Toledo’s program the previous three years. That experience taught him that one of the region’s most prolific prep programs is Glenville High in Cleveland, and Beckman has dipped into the Tarblooder’s talent pool for a second time in the 2012 class.”
