The Kansas State Wildcats are going to be a difficult opponent for Southern Miss to figure out given their roller coaster of a season this year. Frank Martin has his team into yet another tourney, but the Wildcats' inability to be consistent makes them a difficult team to judge. The Wildcats took out Missouri twice in the Big 12 season and showed they can play with anyone on any given night. However, they also lost twice to the sub-.500 Oklahoma Sooners.

As for their opponent, Southern Miss finished with a 25-8 overall record and finished in second place in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles lost in the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament 73-62 to Marshall. Southern Miss has wins over Memphis, Ole Miss and South Florida on their resume this season.
