Despite losing out on an automatic bid by dropping out of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Wichita State (27-5) will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006 against last year's Final Four upstart VCU (28-6), on Thursday evening in Portland, Oregon. WSU will make its ninth total NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since a Sweet 16 run in '06.
The Shockers played VCU in 2011, losing to the Rams 68-67 in Wichita. The Shockers were 2-2 against Top 25 teams this season, and are 8-9 overall in NCAA Tournament play.
