As Kansas faces the long road ahead to New Orleans in the upcoming 2012 NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, the good news is that they have the top player among the 16 teams, including No. 1 seed North Carolina, according to Stewart Mandel. Thomas Robinson is simply that good
Robinson has been putting together a Player of the Year type campaign in Lawrence this season for a KU team that many predicted to take a slide. Instead, Bill Self helped his players coalesce around two stars in Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor and the strategy paid off in the form of an eighth straight Big 12 conference title.
Mandel writes, “The co-favorite for national player of the year, Robinson is a beast on the boards, averaging 11.8 per game (No. 2 nationally) to go with 17.9 points on 53 percent shooting. Besides the UNC pair of Zeller and Henson, there aren’t many players in this region that can match his physicality.”
