2012 NCAA Tournament, Second Round Recap: Kansas State Advances, Wichita State Falls; Kansas, Mizzou Play Friday

The first full day of action in the 2012 NCAA Tournament brought a mixed bag of results for Kansas City-area teams. Kansas State held on to move on, while Wichita State got downed by a familiar mid-major monster.

Kansas State's victory came earlier in the day, as the No. 8 Wildcats took out No. 9 Southern Miss, 70-64. Rodney McGruder had 30 points for the Wildcats, who move on to face No. 1 Syracuse; the Orange edged UNC-Asheville in the first round, but may have more trouble with Kansas State's rugged front line.

No. 5 Wichita State came into the NCAA Tournament as March Madness' highest-seeded mid-major, but the Shockers were stunned by No. 12 VCU's pressure, and fell 62-59 despite a late comeback. Joe Ragland's 15 points were not enough for Wichita State to move on.

No. 2 Kansas and No. 2 Missouri are both in action in Omaha on Friday. The Tigers take on No. 15 Norfolk State at 3:40 p.m. CDT on TNT, while the Jayhawks face No. 15 Detroit at 8:57 p.m. in the day's final game on truTV.
