The Kansas Jayhawks tip off tonight against the upstart NC State Wolfpack in an NCAA Tournament match-up between two teams that were never supposed to make it as far as the Sweet Sixteen.
The Jayhawks were supposed to finally break their streak of dominance in the Big 12 this season with the loss of Marcus and Markieff Morris to the NBA along with Josh Selby. Bill Self had a rebuilding year ahead in 2011-12 according to the preseason prognosticators. Instead, he won an eighth straight Big 12 conference title with Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor at the helm.
Meanwhile, Mark Gottfried has one of the hottest teams in the country moving deeper into the NCAA tournament, and the Wolfpack just knocked off both San Diego State and Georgetown. C.J. Leslie could give KU fits and it should be an intriguing contest despite the disparity in seeding.
