Former Missouri State coach and current Kansas director of basketball operations Barry Hinson has been hired as the head coach at Southern Illinois. Hinson replaces the departed Chris Lowery on the bench for the Salukis who was let go after three straight seasons of 20 or more losses.
↵Hinson spent nine seasons at Missouri State before joining Bill Self and the Jayhawks. He compiled a 169-117 record before he was fired at the end of the 2007-2008 season. Hinson never made the NCAA Tournament while head coach at Missouri State despite three 20 win seasons and an RPI rating of 21 during the 2006 season.
↵Hinson has a long history with Kansas coach Bill Self. Hinson served as an assistant to Self when they were both at Oral Roberts University. After Self left, Hinson replaced him as head coach. From there Hinson accepted the position at Missouri State where he would remain for the next nine seasons.
