The Big 12 conference has announced their 2012 award receipients. Area schools were represented up and down the lists of All-Big 12 players and award winners in a big year for the region.
The top prize in the conference went to junior Kansas Jayhawks forward Thomas Robinson was named Player of the Year. Not to be outdone, Jayhawks center Jeff Withey was named Defensive Player of the Year. In his ninth season at KU, Bill Self was named Co-Coach of the year, along with Fred Hoiberg of the Iowa St. Cyclones.
Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor were the two Jayhawks named to the All-Big 12 First Team, both as unanimous selections. Withey was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team, as well as being a unanimous selection to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
The Missouri Tigers received plenty of honors as well. Mizzou guard Michael Dixon was given the Sixth Man Award and named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team. Marcus Denmon was named to the All-Big 12 First Team, while teammate Ricardo Ratliffe was named to the Second Team. Kim English and Phil Pressey made it onto the Third Team.
Finally, several Kansas St. Wildcats players received honors. Rodney McGruder was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, while Jamar Samuels received and Honorable Mention. McGruder and Jordan Henriquez were named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
