Danny Manning Hires Two Assistant Coaches

There is sort of a Kansas theme going to Tulsa with new head basketball coach Danny Manning. It's only fitting, considering Manning's reputation as a college player with the Jayhawks in the 1980s and his return to the program as assistant coach before being hired away by Tulsa.

But Manning is bringing the Jayhawk tradition with him in his more recent hires for assistant coaches.

Manning announced Thursday that he has hired Brett Ballard and Steve Woodberry to his coaching staff. Both Ballard and Woodberry are former Kansas players. Ballard also previously coached with Manning at Kansas before moving on to become the head coach a Baker University, an NAIA school in Kansas.

Manning just seems to be sticking with what he knows and you can't blame a first-year coach for doing that. His experience from Kansas, particularly his time since 2003, will be of much value to the Tulsa progam.
