Former Florida Basketball Coach Norm Roberts Rejoins Bill Self's Staff At Kansas

Bill Self had some major news for the Kansas basketball program in store for reporters on Monday, but the expected announcement of Thomas Robinson forgoing his senior year for the Jayhawks wasn't the only thing on the slate. While Robinson's declaration for the NBA Draft was definitely the biggest order of business on the day, Self also announced an addition to his coaching staff in the form of longtime friend Norm Roberts.

Roberts most recently was a part of Billy Donovan's staff at Florida. Before that, he was the head coach at St. John's from 2004 to 2010 where he compiled an 81-101 overall record. His best season was his final one in 2009-10 when the Red Storm made the NIT but lost in the first round.

"I'm thrilled," Self told the Lawrence Journal-World. "We were together for nine years. My family helped raise his kids. His family has helped raise mine. We're close. Certainly we hate to see Danny [Manning] go, but Norm coming back will be a big bonus to our program."

Roberts has been with Self at previous stops, including Tulsa and Illinois.
