Kansas Basketball Recruting: Xavier Rathan-Mayes Visiting Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks already enjoy a great standing among the rankings of 2013 recruiting classes for men's basketball, yet head coach Bill Self is determined to add a lot more talent to an impressive group. Xavier Rathan-Mayes is the latest prospect that the Jayhawks are chasing, and it's clear that while there are a ridiculous number of suitors at this point, Kansas might be ranked at the top.

Rathan-Mayes says he has a current list of 45 schools and hopes to take that down soon to 10 or 12. It's quite clear then that no one has any idea where he will commit. However, he did offer up that he was visiting Kansas and that it was the only visit that he even knew he was certain of taking. His reason for focusing on KU early is that they've been in on the 6-3 shooting guard for some time now and that Bill Self is a well-known head coach.

"I know Coach Self is a great coach," said Rathan-Mayes in a recent interview. "I followed Kansas a lot [last season] and watched Thomas Robinson and the point guard [Tyshawn] Taylor. They really had a great season," Rathan-Mayes added."

Rathan-Mayes is the No. 21 ranked player in the class of 2013 according to ESPN.
