The Kansas Jayhawks open Big 12 play Saturday against the TCU Horned Frogs, conference newcomers playing in their first league game.
Reeling from a 25-24 loss to Rice, the Jayhawks will have home field to their advantage against the No. 16 Horned Frogs, which are coming off a 56-0 victory over Grambling State.
But after turning the ball over three times and losing the time of possession battle against Rice, Kansas won't be doing itself a favor if that trend continues against Gary Patterson's defense. The Horned Frogs (1-0) put up 531 total yards against an 0-2 Grambling squad, and TCU held their opponent to just 70 yards.
Kansas (1-1) will need to get better play out of quarterback Dayne Crist, who threw two interceptions against the Owls. His second pass was intercepted with 3:47 to play, and it set up the game-winning field goal for Rice.
