Kansas Vs. Northern Illinois: Jayhawks Hope To Even Record

The Kansas Jayhawks travel to Northern Illinois on Saturday.

Presswire

The Kansas Jayhawks will try to break a two-game losing streak on Saturday when they visit the Northern Illinois Huskies. Kansas is looking to get back to even after dropping to 1-2 last week.

Northern Illinois came to Lawrence last season, as the Jayhawks narrowly escaped with a 45-42 victory. Kansas needed a touchdown catch from D.J. Beshears with 12 seconds left to secure the win.

The Huskies are 2-1 on the year. After starting their schedule with a one-point loss to Iowa, they have rattled off two-straight wins over Tennessee-Martin and Army. The win over Army featured a comeback from 15 points down in the third quarter, with Northern Illinois eventually prevailing, 41-40.

Junior quarterback Jordan Lynch leads the offense for the Huskies. Lynch has completed 63 percent of his passes for 610 yards and five touchdowns to just two interceptions. Lynch also takes care of most of the groundwork for Northern Illinois, carrying the ball 42 times for 304 yards and five touchdowns through three games.

Kansas looks to counter with a solid two-headed rushing attack. Sophomore Tony Pierson leads the Jayhawks with 279 yards on 48 carries, but is followed closely behind by junior Taylor Cox, who has rushed 42 times for 247 yards.

Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Dekalb, Ill. ESPN3 will be streaming the game live.
