Roy Williams should be 'back to normal' soon after surgery

Former KU head coach Roy Williams' tumor on his kidney was benign, and a UNC urologist has said the coach should be back to normal soon.

Former University of Kansas basketball coach Roy Williams had a tumor removed from his kidney back on Sept. 19, which raised a few worries about the 62-year old coaches health. Fortunately, it was revealed on Tuesday that his tumor was benign, and the second tumor on his other kidney is likely also benign.

UNC Urology professor Eric Wallen said last week that Williams should be back to normal following the surgical procedures:

"We are pleased with how well Coach Williams is doing," Wallen said Tuesday in a statement. "If everything continues to progress as expected, he should be back to his normal activities soon.

The UNC coach has had various minor medical problems over the past few years including vertigo and back issues. Williams is expected to get back to the Tar Heels with plenty of time to spare before the Oct. 13 opening preseason practice, and most certainly in time for the start of the regular season.
