Temple vs. Kansas halftime update: Jayhawks lead Owls, 33-27

Kansas cruised to a 12-point lead midway through the first half only to have Temple rally back and make it a fairly close game at halftime in Lawrence.

USA TODAY Sports

The No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks hold a 33-27 halftime lead over the Temple Owls on Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.

The Jayhawks (11-1) jumped out to a quick 22-10 lead on the Owls (10-2), but Temple went on a 9-1 run to make it a 23-19 game with less than seven minutes remaining in the opening half. From there, the Owls and Jayhawks matched buckets, with KU never going up by more than six points during the remainder of the half.

Forward Kevin Young lead the Jayhawks with eight first-half points, but missed a dunk on an alleyoop late in the half that likely would have blown the roof off of Allen Fieldhouse. KU center Jeff Withey added six points and five rebounds.

Temple guard Khalif Wyatt leads all scorers with nine points at the break, while forward Anthony Lee pitched in eight.

The Jayhawks shot 40 percent from the field in the opening half while holding Temple to just 32-percent shooting.
