Is Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III the next Michael Vick? Time will tell, but he has at least gotten Vick's attention. On Saturday, while Griffin was tossing 5 touchdown passes in a 36-35 loss to Kansas State, Vick tweeted his support: "Robert Griffin from Baylor is a beast! I see you youngn."
Vick is not the only one to have noticed Griffin. He is currently fourth on the ESPN Heisman watch. His 18 touchdown passes and only one interception are arguably the best numbers of any quarterback in the country.
Even though he was not a popular pre-season Heisman hopeful, the junior quarterback did not exactly come out of nowhere. He has impressed ever since stepping on Baylor's campus. As far back as his freshman season in 2008, he threw 15 touchdown passes and only 3 interceptions. But still, no one expected him to come out completing his passes at an unheard-of 82% clip. (That number will surely come down as the Big 12 season progresses.)
Oh, and he can also run the ball. ESPN Dallas has noted that the 6-2, 220-pound Griffin, who tried out for the olympics, may be the fastest quarterback in football history.
