Oklahoma State picked a good week to lose. Of course, it’s definitely not what Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon and company were hoping for in their game against the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday night. But even though they suffered a loss after two overtime sessions, everyone else clearly received the same memo among the top teams in the country. The Oregon Ducks lost. So did the Oklahoma Sooners. Boise State got the info a week early. In other words, few teams have looked that great in the last few weeks.
That’s what has allowed the Cowboys to stay strong in the rankings despite their loss. They are still No. 5 in the most recent Associated Press release of rankings and that keeps them in the hunt for a major BCS bowl as well as slim hopes for a national championship appearance. If Arkansas can upend LSU and Auburn can beat Alabama this week, then anything is certainly possible.
