After easily handling Southern Illinois 83-58 on Thursday, the Kansas State Wildcats have advanced to the second round of the 2011 Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii, with a game against the UTEP Miners on Friday.
With the game never seriously in doubt, Frank Martin was able to give his bench some valuable minutes and freshman guard Angel Rodriguez exploded for a career-high 17 points.
UTEP, a 5-5 team from Conference USA, beat Clemson 61-48 on Thursday.
The Miners are a balanced team, with their top three scorers -- 6'7 freshman forward Julian Washburn, 6'7 senior forward Gabriel McCauley and 6'3 sophomore guard Michael Perez -- all averaging between 10 and 13 points a night.
UTEP does not start a true center, which could mean a big game for Kansas State big man Jordan Henriquez, whose finally begun tapping into his immense potential in his third season in Manhattan.
The 4:00 PM game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
