Kansas State passed its first test of the season going on the road and defeating Virginia Tech 69-61 in Blacksburg. Jamar Samuels scored 15 points in the second half and finished with 14 rebounds as the Wildcats overcame a six point halftime deficit to grab the road win.
Kansas State began the second half with a 12-2 run to seize control of the game. Samuels finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds while making 7 of 8 shots from the field. Shane Southwell finished with 11 points while Thomas Gipson, Will Spradling and Jordan Henriquez all finished with nine. The Wildcats shot just over 40 percent from the field in the game but held the Hokies to just 34 percent shooting.
Robert Brown led Virginia Tech with 15 points while Erick Green added 14. Green finished just 4 of 17 from the field after coming into the game shooting over 51 percent on the season.
