Kansas State (12-3) hopes to even its 1-2 Big 12 conference record after a difficult opening tilt that's included games (and losses) at Kansas and Baylor when the Wildcats head to Norman, Oklahoma to face the 10-5 (0-3 Big 12) Sooners Saturday.
The Wildcats will face off against former player and coach Lon Kruger for the first time. The first-year Sooners coach was the first in K State history to take the Wildcats to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in his run in Manhattan (1986-'90).
K State has proven to be an extremely balanced scoring offense this season, with four players averaging virtually identical numbers. Courtesy K State SID:
Seven players are averaging six or more points, including three in double figures, and four averaging five or more rebounds per game. Just 2.2 points separates the team’s leading scorer (Rodney McGruder - 14.3 ppg.) with the No. 2 and 3 scorers (Jamar Samuels and Will Spradling - 11.1 ppg.), while Samuels’ team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game are just 1.3 more than McGruder’s No. 4 average of 5.1 boards.
