Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Collin Klein and West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith will be linked together all season for multiple awards, including the Heisman Trophy. On Tuesday, the two were named semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award. Sixteen semifinalists were named, including five from the Big 12: Klein, Smith, Oklahoma's Landry Jones, Texas Tech's Seth Doege and Baylor's Nick Florence.
Klein's Heisman aspirations took a huge leap this past weekend when he led No. 4 Kansas State to a road win over the Smith and the Mountaineers. So far this season, Klein has passed for 1,397 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions while also rushing for 551 yards and 14 touchdowns. Against West Virginia alone, Klein passed for three touchdowns and rushed for four.
Even after two losses, Smith's numbers are absurd: 2,414 yards passing, 26 touchdowns and two interceptions.
