Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown said that junior Case McCoy will start at quarterback on Saturday against the Kansas State Wildcats, according to The Associated Press.
While starter David Ash is only listed as questionable for the game because of a rib injury, he is also coming off one of his worst performances of the year. Ash threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball away to the TCU Horned Frogs last weekend in a 20-13 loss. He completed 10-of-21 passes for 104 yards.
McCoy replaced Ash last week to complete 11-of-17 passes for 110 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. The junior's last start came last year against Baylor in the Longhorns' final game of the regular season. He had five turnovers that game before Ash replaced McCoy for the bowl game in 2011.
But McCoy has played this season, most notably in a 21-17 come-from-behind victory against the Kansas Jayhawks. He replaced an ineffective Ash in the fourth quarter while passing for 109 yards and a touchdown.
