Kellis Robinett got the latest quotes from Frank Martin on the rumors that the Kansas State basketball coach has been contacted by the athletic department of the South Carolina Gamecocks to gauge his interest in leaving for the SEC. Martin, in short, responded with the word "crazy" to describe how things get out and miscommunicated in today's 24/7 digital culture.
He said, "In the age of social media that we live in right now, it's crazy. I was scheduled to be at a press conference today in South Carolina and I was sitting watching a show in New York City last night. And obviously I'm sitting here with you guys today, so it's . . . The stuff that gets out these days, I look at it as a compliment that we're doing our job the right way at Kansas State that these sort of things get out."
The Gamecocks are in need of a new coach and they are not the first team who has come calling for Martin in recent years. Martin has built a nice program with at least 21 wins in each and every season since he arrived in Manhattan. He's also in the shadow of Bill Self in Kansas, and that will never change, so that seems possible that he could want to escape such a looming shadow.
That said, Martin was just out to enjoy himself at a Broadway show when the rumor broke. It wil be interesting to follow the rumor of where it goes from here and what South Carolina says in response, if anything.
