Frank Martin To South Carolina? Conflict Reports Emerge About Kansas State Coach

Andy Shain, a reporter covering the South Carolina Gamecocks for The State in Columbia, SC, says that Frank Martin to the University of South Carolina is official after several days of rumors and speculation that the Gamecocks had their sights set on the Kansas State basketball coach.

On the flip side, however, is Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports who says this is not a done deal just yet. In the world of Twitter and instant scoops coming from multiple directions, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle.

Just a couple days ago, Martin himself called the way that rumors spread “crazy” and dismissed notions of contract talks with South Carolina. At the same time, what else is a coach supposed to say? No head coach has ever said, “Oh, I can’t believe you guys found out.” Thus it’s safe to say that there is a lot of smoke around this potential fire for there to be nothing to the contrary.

Perhaps it’s all about leverage for Martin if he is unhappy with his current structure or the AD John Currie at K-State. Everything is difficult to tell at this point. However, South Carolina is definitely aiming for a coach that would vastly improve their basement-dwelling program. That much is certain.
