Frank Martin To South Carolina: Coach May Have Clashed With Kansas State AD

The Kansas St. Wildcats recently lost their men's head basketball coach, Frank Martin. Martin accepted an offer to become the coach of SEC rivals the South Carolina Gamecocks. Wildcats fans are understandably disappointed and many are looking for an answer to why Martin decided to leave the program.

The Kansas City Star reports that Martin may have been driven away from K-State due to the school's athletic director, John Currie.

That sour relationship reached a breaking point during the NCAA Tournament, when Martin didn't agree with the way Currie handled the decision to hold senior Jamar Samuels out of a game against Syracuse, which K-State lost. Samuels, K-State sources said, was wired $200 by his former AAU coach. ... Martin said he didn't think Samuels did anything wrong and also said he played no part in the decision-making process.

The incident may have driven the final wedge between Martin and the higher-ups at the school. Either way, he is now Carolina-bound.
