Common sense would make someone think that a college basketball head coach at a BCS level school simply could not hire more than one coach to his staff from a program that finished 8-23 last season in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Somehow though that phenomenon has happened yet again in Manhattan, KS under the leadership of first year head man Bruce Weber, he himself coming off being fired by Illinois.

It was announced by Kansas State that Weber has added former Southern Illinois player and assistant coach Brad Korn to fill the role of director of basketball operations. As a player at Southern Illinois from 1999-2004, Korn experienced tremendous success as he was a part of teams that advanced to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances

Korn has spent the last eight seasons on staff at SIU with the last six years his title being a full-time assistant coach. He was a graduate assistant for two seasons before being promoted in 2006.

The head coach during every one of those eight seasons was current K-State top assistant Chris Lowery, who was fired at the conclusion of last season after failing to lead Southern Illinois to a winning season in any of the four previous years.

So a quick recap will show Wildcat fans that their program is now under the direction of a head coach who was fired after last season along with a top assistant who was also fired combined with an assistant coach, Alvin Brooks III, who comes in direct from Sam Houston State. While Korn technically is not part of the immediate coaching staff his hiring only adds to the fear of some fans that K-State will move closer to being a mid-major program like Southern Illinois than that of a Top 25 squad.

Weber and K-State still have one assistant coach position still available that they need to fill. If you are trying to go and predict who it might be your best chance might be finding someone who has spent some time in Carbondale, Illinois.
