New Big 12 TV Deal Helps Basketball As Well As Football

The new TV contract that the Big 12 signed with ESPN and FOX was driven primarily by football, but it should have many positive benefits on the basketball side as well.

There will be more Big 12 games on national TV than ever before, as the conference will have 105 games televised and at least 30 non-conference games on ESPN or one of its many, many platforms.

That, in turn, will be a huge bonus to recruiting, which occurs on a more national basis in basketball than it does in football.

Michael Beasley, for example, came to Kansas State from the Washington D.C. area. The more games the conference's programs have on national TV, the better they will be able to attract top recruits nationwide -- and that's the life-blood of any college basketball program.
