The Missouri Tigers lost 31-17 to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday afternoon. There was one play in that game that the referees blatantly missed. It didn't cost Mizzou game -- although it didn't help -- because the Huskers were without a doubt the better team on Saturday. But it is a little concerning that a referee can miss a call like that when there is such an emphasis on eliminating those hits from the game.
As you can see in the video above, the Nebraska defended hits Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert helmet-to-helmet which is an easy penalty to call. There's been a major emphasis on it lately and this one was flat-out missed.
Here's what the announcers during the game had to say about it:
This should be a penalty on Osborne. We already talked about Eric Martin who is suspended for an illegal hit last week against Oklahoma State and I ma shocked this call was not made. Here comes Osborne off the edge and this by definition is targeting. It's going after a player. That flag needed to be thrown.
I'm shocked Gabbert's still in the game. He looked wobbly. I think Missouri should get him of fthe field. He does not look like he has full control over himself right now.
They missed the penalty. This again is something we're trying to get out of this game and that was clearly an illegal hit by Osborne.
