Rumors have been circulating around the Iowa Hawkeyes football program that a serious amount of suspension were coming. Iowa issued a release on Monday evening and announced that running back Jewel Hampton is transferring and running back Adam Robinson would not be with the team at the Insight Bowl against the Missouri Tigers.
Hampton is a sophomore with 27 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown this year before suffering a season ending ACL injury. Hampton was expected to compete with Robinson who went on to rack up 943 yards and 10 touchdowns this year.
On Hampton, who has been injury prone in three years at Iowa, Ferentz said:
"Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career. We wish him the best of success in the future."
And on Robinson, Ferentz says he's not playing in the bowl game "as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies."
"While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January."
