2011 NFL Mock Draft: Washington Redskins Future: QB Blaine Gabbert

The Washington Redskins are expected to enter the 2011 NFL season without QB Donovan McNabb, who has a large bonus due to him at the start of the season. It's unclear exactly what the Redskins plans are at quarterback but many are predicting McNabb is not part of those plans.

So the Redskins need a quarterback. If they look at SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft, they'll find their next quarterback.

Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri. Mike Shanahan appears to have a short-term starter for his team in Rex Grossman - who'd have guessed we'd be reading that sentence a year ago? - but the team still lacks a long-term answer. Gabbert isn't ready to play by any stretch, but he's got the tools and the smarts to eventually be a good player in Shanahan's system.

While I think it's best most, if not all rookie quarterbacks get some time on the bench first, I think Gabbert could make an impact early. He's not QB Sam Bradford by any means but he has some skills that could help him contribute quickly.

In this mock draft, Gabbert is the second quarterback taken behind Auburn QB Cam Newton, who went eighth to the Tennessee Titans. I could also see one of those quarterbacks going to the Arizona Cardinals at the fifth spot.
