Back in April of 2006, the Tennessee Titans handed the keys of their organization to QB Vince Young who they selected with the third overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft. Five years later and the Titans are moving on from Young meaning they could be in the market for a new franchise quarterback.
One candidate for that spot is Missouri Tigers QB Blaine Gabbert, who is projected as one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2011 NFL draft. Mock drafts around the league have Gabbert landing around the top 10 and Brian Galliford of SB Nation's latest 2011 NFL mock draft has him going to the Titans with the eighth pick.
I had Cam Newton here a week ago, but have re-considered the idea that the Titans would take a player with character concerns after dealing with Vince Young. Gabbert is a nice value here, though it's not certain that Jeff Fisher can wait for a young guy to develop.
While Galliford suggests Fisher may not be able to wait, I'd argue that he could select a quarterback to prolong his Tennessee career. Taking a quarterback high in the draft could give owner Bud Adams reason to keep Fisher around as he sees the young quarterback through his formative years in the league.
