The Missouri Tigers, in case you have been living in a cave, are now officially headed to the SEC after a statement today on both sides confirmed the long-rumored move. And now the official welcome mats are going to be rolled out all day with quotes that sounds wonderfully prepared because, well, they have been.
“The Presidents and Chancellors of the Southeastern Conference are pleased to welcome the University of Missouri to the SEC,” Florida President Bernie Machen said in a statement. “The University of Missouri is a prestigious academic institution with a strong athletic tradition and a culture similar to our current institutions.”
Machen will also be welcoming the Missouri Tigers as a new rival in the SEC East according to reports and that should be an interesting match-up over the next few years as Gary Pinkel’s spread offense learns to adjust to the SEC style of play. For now, everyone is smiling on all sides as the SEC gets its official 14th member of the conference.
