Press conferences are being held. Statements are being given. Smiles are all around. The long-rumored move of the Missouri Tigers from the Big 12 to the SEC is finally official and today’s the media blitz where everyone gets their stories out and poses for the cameras. The latest official statement to come out is from the Southeastern Conference’s commissioner Mike Slive.
“I am pleased to officially welcome the University of Missouri to the SEC family on behalf of our presidents, chancellors, athletics directors, students and fans,” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. “Missouri is an outstanding academic institution with a strong athletic program. We look forward to having the Tigers compete in our league starting in 2012.”
Slive will become a familiar name for local Missouri fans as the commissioner with the move and he’s spearheaded the most successful conference yet. If anything, it will be interesting to compare him and whoever succeeds Chuck Neinas as the long-term commish of the Big 12.
