The 2011 NFL Combine is starting this week and after you get through the fastest 40-yard dash time and who had the most reps on the bench press, the topic of conversation will focus on the quarterbacks. There isn't a sure-fire top quarterback in the 2011 NFL draft class with most pointing to QB Blaine Gabbert and QB Cam Newton as the top two choices.
As it stands now, Gabbert is the only one of the top quarterbacks not throwing at the Combine (by choice -- Greg McElroy isn't throwing due to injury).
Expected to throw: Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Andy Dalton, Ricky Stanzi and Christian Ponder
Not expected to throw: Blaine Gabbert
Things can change, of course, and a player like Newton could decide not to throw at the last minute but, for now, this is what the quarterback list looks like.
To be fair to Gabbert, players in his position under the advice of agent Tom Condon don't throw very often. There's a feeling that you can hurt yourself more than you can help yourself at the Combine so Gabbert will wait for Mizzou's March 17 pro day.
