Before Senior Bowl week, Michael Egnew was making waves as one of the top tight ends available with a strong career in Missouri and solid pass-catching skills. Mike Mayock called Egnew one of his top five tight ends in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft class. Unfortunately the Senior Bowl performance in practices leading up to the big game didn’t leave the most favorable taste in the mouths of scouts.
Dan Pompei analyzed the tight ends from the Senior Bowl and says that Alabama’s Brad Smelley was the player who most took advantage of the showcase.
“Alabama’s Brad Smelley has been on the rise all year, and he continued to help his stock at the Senior Bowl by getting open and catching the ball well. For a player who wasn’t on anyone’s radar in the preseason, Smelley has come quite a long way. Missouri tight end Michael Egnew was a little disappointing.”
Egnew definitely still has time to make an impact with the upcoming NFL Combine as well as the Missouri Pro Day.
