Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant has launched a charity called the Kevin Durant Family Foundation, in which he wants to help "financially vulnerable children and their families succeed." On Durant's website, it is explained that for help in launching his foundation, he turned to his mother, who helped lead him to his own success.
When it came time to set the priorities for his Foundation during its inaugural year, Kevin didn't have to look far. He chose to focus on the very things that have led him to his own success: support from his mom, Wanda Pratt, and the opportunity to engage in neighborhood activities that "kept him out of trouble."
The Kevin Durant Family Foundation has three main branches. One is helping single mothers, another is childhood education and the last is "Kevin's Christmas." Durant himself was raised by a single mother and he constantly praises her on the job she did raising him as a child.
My mother taught me to always be strong and always work hard. She's been working hard her whole life for me and my brother. And now, I'm a lot like her in that I >work hard for what I want.
His foundation is partnered with the All-American City Grade Level Reading Award and it is devoted to helping disadvantaged children become more successful students. At Christmas time, Durant has surprised disadvantaged children with presents and shopping sprees, which he started doing his rookie season.
