To no one's surprise, Team USA basketball cruised to a 113-59 win over John Calipari and the Dominican Republic in an exhibition game on Thursday night in Las Vegas.
With the Thunder well-represented on the squad, Kevin Durant led all scorers with 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting in 11 minutes off the bench. He also had 10 rebounds. Durant had 21 points at halftime and didn't play much in the second half with the game out of hand. James Harden scored eight points on 3-for-9 shooting in almost 18 minuntes, while Russell Westbrook scored six points on 3-for-7 shooting in 19 minutes, along with five rebounds.
As a team, USA shot 56.8 percent from the floor and held the Dominicans to 31.7 percent. The Dominican Republic also had 25 turnovers, while the American had 27 assists on 42 made baskets.
Carmelo Anthony led the USA starters with 13 points in 12 minutes. The Americans got off to a slow start, and the offense was sloppy at times early, but as the game went on, the players got a better feel for each other and their talent was overwhelming.
Although he expected a sizable loss, Calipari certainly isn't used to it.
USA beats Calipari’s D.R. squad by 54 pts in exhibition. In last 2 seasons, Cal’s UK teams lost by COMBINED total of only 46 pts (11 games).
