VIDEO: Ryan Lochte Bests Michael Phelps For Gold Medal In 400m IM

Michael Phelps failed in his first bid to attain a gold medal and further Olympic glory today when Ryan Lochte bested him for first place in the 400m IM in early action in London for the 2012 Summer Olympic games. Not only this but Phelps failed to even place, taking fourth which places him outside of any medal contention at all. Now he faces even more pressure in other events.

Phelps is, of course, the hero of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic games and is expected to make further waves for himself, pardon the pun, in London this year. Ryan Lochte began to pull ahead, however, in the backstroke which is referred to as "his specialty here." Check out the complete action from live on site below. The announcer and crowd only enliven the drama and special effects begin to enhance the event in the third lap.
