In an eyebrow-raising move, the Broncos on Tuesday picked up Kolby Smith off of waivers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Yes, the same Kolby Smith that was released by the Chiefs.

It's possible they feel Smith has something left to give in the NFL. He's ended the last two seasons on injured reserve and guys from the Belichick tree usually don't look too kindly upon players that are injured often.

The more likely case is that they want some more information on the Chiefs. So they sign Smith, and he'll have a shot to make the team, all the while giving them information on the Chiefs.

The Chiefs on Monday announced the release of six players. Since most of you aren't likely familiar with all the players, here's a quick rundown of who they are and where they came from:

RB Kolby Smith: A fifth round draft pick in 2007, Smith had a solid rookie season. But he ended 2008 on injured reserve and started the 2009 season on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list before again ending the season on IR. I know of at least one Chiefs player who didn't think Smith would be making the team so his release isn't a huge shock.

QB Matt Gutierrez: He came from the Patriots last season and served as the emergency third quarterback. He was competing with QB Tyler Palko in OTAs. It appears for now that Palko won that battle.

TE Leroy Banks: He was signed just last week. Now that he's been released, we know he was signed to be another body during OTAs. The Chiefs previously had two tight ends injured so they needed someone for the remaining OTAs.

DB Andre Jones: He was signed last month as an undrafted free agent. He came from Akron where he played just about every non-offensive/defensive line position.

OL Nick Landry: Another body for OTAs. He was a developmental guy.

OL Jermail Porter: He was signed last year and spent much of the season on the practice squad. He's actually a college wrestler and that's part of the reason the Chiefs picked him up.

So when you go into work tomorrow, and people are talking about the Chiefs roster moves, now you'll know.
