It was a strange one but the Royals pulled out the victory.

Zack Greinke, winner of two in a row now, got the win while Joakim Soria came in for the save.

Wilson Betemit once again had a solid day with three hits and the go-ahead run in the eighth. Greinke was solid through seven giving up just one run. Reliever Blake Wood gave up one run in the eighth.

"The guys are picking each other up in situations," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "The pitching's holding the offense down, our offense is scoring enough runs for us to win ball games, so it's a nice team affair all the way around."

Depending on the severity, the story of the day could be Jose Guillen's injury. He came up lame, clutching his hamstring while grounding into a double play.

He left the game.

No word yet on Guillen's injury or what it might mean.

For the Royals, that makes four series' wins in a row.

Jose Guillen hit into a double play in Tuesday night's game against the Mariners.

More importantly, he came up lame clutching his hamstring.

It certainly didn't look good and Guillen exited the game.

I think one commenter on Royals Review captured the thoughts of more than a few Royals fans:

Kila Ka'aihue, COME ON DOWN!!!

While Ka'aihue could be construed as good news, depending on the injury, this could mean bad news for the Royals with the MLB trade deadline coming up. The Royals are expected to field offers for Guillen, who's entering the final year of his contract.

And Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star:

Well, that was just so Royals, and on so many different levels. Wow.

Updates coming after the game. The Royals are leading 3-1 in the eighth.

The Royals and Mariners will meet at SafeCo Field once again on Tuesday evening for game two of their three-game set.

The Royals took the early lead beating the Mariners in 10 innings Monday night thanks to a timely single from Yuniesky Betancourt in the 10th.

On Tuesday night, Zack Grienke takes the mound seeking his fifth win of the season. Greinke got the victory last week (after a wild 8th inning).

The starter for the Mariners was supposed to be Erik Bedard, returning from injury. However, some soreness from a bullpen session will keep him out again. It would have been his first start start since having surgery last August.

Here's what Dave Cameron of FanGraphs.com had to say about Ryan Rowland-Smith, the Mariners starter in place of Bedard, in an interview with Royals Review:

Rowland-Smith is your classic no-stuff, good command, flyball lefty, only this year, he hasn't had command, which is kind of a problem. He's got a good change-up, but he doesn't throw it behind in the count much, and so when he's missing with his fastball, he's a batting practice pitcher.

Sounds good for the Royals.

Sitting out tonight is Alberto Callaspo. He had some time off last week because of a sore wrist. After playing on Monday night, he'll get tonight off.

The Royals are trying to win a series in Seattle for the first time in eight years.
