Royals young guys help salvage one in Cleveland

The Kansas City Royals young players -- Mitch Maier, Alex Gordon and Kila Ka'aihue -- helped propel them to victory against the Cleveland Indians.

Maier had a pair of RBIs and Ka'aihue had one, too. Gordon had two hits.

The Royals won one of three against the Indians. The battle for fourth place continues.

Chiefs cut four, cut down day coming

The Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday released four players: T/G Tyler Eastman, RB Kestahn Moore, TE Cody Slate and QB Bill Stull.

They are now at 76 roster players which means by 3:00 p.m. (CDT) on Tuesday, Aug. 31, they'll need to make one more cut to get down to 75 players.

On Sept. 4, they'll need to be down to 53 so there are a lot of nervous folks inside Arrowhead right about now.

Quite a month for Mizzou

Here's how the month shook out for Mizzou football:

Assistant coach Bruce Walker arrested for DWI

LB Will Ebner arrested for DWI

RB Derrick Washington suspended, accused of sexual assault

CB Munir Prince carted off field with neck injury

Yeah...it's been a long month. It appears that Washington's suspension will be the one that hurts the most. That could change the course of the Tigers season.

Gill's new coaching style

The last KU football coach, Mark Mangino, gave off the perception that he didn't care about his players because he was so rough.

In light of Mangino, I found this passage from a recent KC Star article about Turner Gill interesting:

Recently, sophomore receiver Bradley McDougald was leaving the practice field when Gill pulled him aside.

"How am I doing?" Gill asked him.

McDougald was speechless.

"It was the first time I’ve ever had a coach ask me how they were doing," McDougald says. "I didn’t really know how to answer the question."
