Here's what people are saying about the game:

I'll do more checking on this, but Nebraska’s 90 victories have to be most by one school over another in major college annals. Hours later, the Jayhawks took the field with the same mind-set as their coach.

Turner Gill has been telling folks this week is not about him. The former Nebraska QB, now the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, is heading back to Lincoln one more time. The story this week has been multiple parts: KU's crazy come back against Colorado and how they can use that momentum against Nebraska, Nebraska's dominating defense and then Turner Gill's homecoming.

Via Topeka Capital Journal:

"The game is not about me," Gill said Tuesday. "It is about the players, and that is the truth of it all."

These are the same players that, down 45-17 against Colorado last week, fought for him to create an incredible comeback. KU had lost four in a row at that point and the pressure was slowly mounting. Yet the players found it in them to turn it around last week against Colorado.

Clearly some of them had to be fighting for Gill. He should be using that same motivation as they head to Nebraska. Tell his players that this is his former alma mater, and he wants to beat the crap out of them. Why not do that? It's A.) true and B.) a way to get his players fired up.

I wouldn't suggest that if seniors like Angus Quigley hadn't clearly demonstrated to us that they're willing to fight for Gill. He's struck an emotional chord with some of these guys and he should have played up the angle that he's facing his alma mater and wants to beat them.

Because, let's face it, KU needs all the motivation they can get in this game.

I'm not in that locker room, and on that practice field so I can't tell you if this would have worked but I do think Gill shouldn't have ignored the circumstances completely.

Kansas Jayhawks head coach Turner Gill spoke with the media on Tuesday regarding the upcoming road trip to play the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This will be one of KU's toughest games of the year. It's never easy to win in Lincoln and this is a top 10 team.

Gill laid out his goals for the game including protecting the football and creating turnovers.

"The keys to the game are first we have to take care of the football. Ball security. Ball security and also our defense we have to have three or more turnovers. Just some stats that really caught my eye with them are their offense has had 31 times where the ball has been on the ground. The opponent has gotten 11 of them. There are going to be opportunities where we are going to have to be able to cause fumbles and we have to be able to recover. I think if we do those things and we take care of the ball on the offensive side there is a great opportunity for us to be successful. The last key is we have to continue to play relentless. You also have to have the good execution."

One more I would add: starting fast. This won't be a Colorado type of situation where the Jayhawks can fall down early and come back. Nebraska is simply too good. If Kansas gets in a two-score hole, it's over. KU hasn't exactly been the fastest starting team so this is a significant hurdle.

As far as the turnovers, KU will need to force a few (or more), as Gill says. Not only do they need to create turnovers, but they need to capitalize on them. They need to score. And, frankly, they need to score TDs off of turnovers not FGs.

KU has a lot to do to have a shot in this game. It seems like a long shot but, then again, so did 45-17 in the fourth quarter against Colorado.

The Kansas Jayhawks will head to Lincoln to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Jayhawks are coming off of an incredible comeback against Colorado (which later got Dan Hawkins fired) and probably feeling better than they were heading into last week.

Kansas head coach Turner Gill said this week that Quinn Mecham would be the starter against the Huskers on Saturday.

Kansas' quarterback situation is a bit murky right now. Starter Jordan Webb was injured two weeks ago with a shoulder injury while backup Kale Pick had a concussion although he's been cleared to play. Last week Gill announced Mecham as the starter and he played well. He completed a good percentage of his passes and led his team on a school record fourth quarter comeback.

The Cornhuskers are coming off of a very tight 31-30 victory over Iowa State. That showed the Huskers are vulnerable, which is all Kansas can hope for.

Clearly Nebraska is the favorite here and they're not Colorado so I don't see them losing a lead. This will be a big game for the Jayhawks but one you can't realistically predict them to win.
