If you're a Missouri Tigers fan, you're probably feeling a little down today. After Mizzou clawed its way back from 18 points down against the Georgetown Hoyas at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. on Tuesday night, the Tigers had their hearts broken as the Hoyas drilled a three-pointer with .3 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

With 19 seconds left, Missouri sat at the free throw line with a four point lead and somehow lost this game. Credit Georgetown for hitting everything in sight, particularly at critical times. There are a ton of "Ifs" with this game. If Mizzou makes that free throw, if Michael Dixon doesn't foul with 14 seconds left, if Mizzou's Kim English gets that rebound.

In the end, it doesn't matter.

The Missouri Tigers would be waking up this morning feeling pretty good about themselves if they had just hit a few free throws late in Tuesday night's game against the No. 16 ranked Georgetown Hoyas at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Tigers missed three of four free throws in the final 19 seconds which is what ultimately killed them in their 111-102 overtime loss to the Hoyas.

The first two came at the 19-second mark. Missouri was at the free throw line with a four-point lead trying to extend it. The Tigers couldn't have asked for a better situation than that -- at the free throw line, up four points, with 19 seconds remaining.

Unfortunately, Laurence Bowers misses both free throws, Georgetown snags the rebound, goes up court and is fouled by Mizzou's Michael Dixon. Georgetown drills both free throws (of course!) and Mizzou gets the ball back and, again, they're fouled sending Michael Dixon to the free throw line with 14.1 seconds left.

Clank.

Clank.

"There's no excuse," Dixon said after the game,"I just missed the free throw. I kind of pride myself on shooting free throws, and I take responsibility for that, I kind of let my team down. There are about 50 different things that you could say if it went the other way in this game we could have won, but I'm a point guard and point guards make free throws."

Talk about bad timing. Dixon was 8 of 11 at the free throw line all night. Just 12 seconds earlier he had hit two in a row to keep Mizzou ahead. The guy shot over 80 percent from the line. Those misses...just happen.

I'm impressed with his attitude -- "I'm a point guard and point guards make free throws" -- and his ability to understand the mistake. The Tigers just got caught up in some bad timing. For example, not many opposing teams will go 18 of 18 at the free throw line against Mizzou. Not many will hit 15 3-pointers.

And Dixon won't miss those free throws very often.

We wrote before Tuesday night's game between the Missouri Tigers and Georgetown Hoyas in Kansas City's Sprint Center that we'll learn something more about the Tigers. We're a month into the season and how much can we say we really know about Mizzou? Not much, in my opinion. But after Tuesday's OT loss to Georgetown we do know Mizzou is for real. Are they No. 9-in-the-country for real? Maybe, maybe not. That part wasn't so crystal clear.

I really liked what I saw from Mizzou after they were getting rolled in the first half. When you're down 18, getting embarrassed on a "neutral court" -- anyone that says this wasn't a Tigers home game didn't see a bit of it -- there are a couple of ways you can go. You could do the easy thing and continue getting blown out. Or you can do the hard thing and keep at it, even if it seems it's not working.

It did start to click for Mizzou because their formula is a proven one and a successful one. They didn't go deep into their bench because the starters played well, and Georgetown controlled the tempo early on but they kept plugging away at the Hoyas until they finally took the lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the second half. Just a few minutes later and they had their largest lead of the game -- five.

Did Mizzou do some things wrong? There's no doubt. Allowing the one guy you knew you had to stop (Austin Freeman) go crazy is one. Allowing their guards to dominate the show much of the night and then get out-rebounded on the other end is another. Getting away from what they do best for most of the first half is also one.

But I think we learned a lot of good things on Tuesday night at the Sprint Center. Georgetown is battle-tested and their early schedule suggests they were ready for this. Missouri is no joke and making an 18-point comeback against at top 25 team is impressive. But there's also the issue of getting down by 18 in the first place.

I don't like the loss we saw from Missouri but I do like a lot from this game. This will be one of those games that will make them stronger down the stretch. There's so much they can learn and do better and there's so much they already did well.

I'll choose to be happy that the Tigers responded when they were down 18 and nearly won this thing in OT.

You wanted good basketball in Kansas City? The Missouri Tigers and Georgetown Hoyas delivered on Tuesday night at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The 16th ranked Hoyas walked away with a stunning 111-102 overtime victory over Mizzou giving the ninth ranked Tigers their first loss of the season.

To say this is disappointing for Mizzou is an understatement. They were down by as much as 18 in the first half but clawed their way back into the second half to eventually reclaim the lead. The two teams went back and forth the final eight minutes of the game with each taking multiple turns with as the leader.

Marcus Denmon was a superstar for Mizzou as he hit big shot after big shot en route to a 27-point, five rebound game. He shot a ridiculous 10-of-12 from the field including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the line. All five Mizzou starters ended in double digits including Ricardo Ratliffe who had a solid game with 22 points and seven boards. For Georgetown, Austin Freeman was the star with 31 points but they had excellent performances from Chris Wright with 21 points and 26 points from Jason Clark.

The Tigers began to pull away, slightly, with just a few minutes remaining as they took their biggest lead of the game -- five points -- with just four minutes remaining.

The Tigers held onto a four point lead with 19 seconds left and it appeared they were on their way to a victory as Laurence Bowers stood at the free throw line looking to extend the lead. Bowers missed the first, and another one, as Georgetown's Chris Wright grabbed the rebound and headed up court.

If Bowers hits either of those, this game is probably over. Nevertheless, Wright's rebound gave him the ball moving up court where he was inexplicably fouled by Mizzou's MIchael Dixon with 14.8 seconds left. Cameras showed neither Dixon nor head coach Mike Anderson was too happy about the foul as it stopped the clock in a game where seconds mattered (a lot).

Dixon's foul resulted in two made free throws cutting Mizzou's lead to just two points.

Mizzou got the ball back and Dixon was fouled hitting the first of two free throws. Georgetown brought the ball back down the count with under 10 seconds remaining and shot a desperation three-pointer that was off the mark. Mizzou's Kim English attempted to grab the ball as it fell out of bounds near the basket but all he could do was throw it back into play -- right into the hands of a Georgetown player who quickly pushed it out to Chris Wright and....

Well, you can guess what happened. Wright made the three, sent the game to overtime where Georgetown quickly pulled out to what turned out to be an insurmountable lead.

The loss is disappointing on so many levels. We said before the game this was an opportunity for Mizzou to prove they're for real. I think they did some of that tonight but it would have been nice to get the win and have tangible evidence of just how real they are.

The Missouri Tigers are playing a home game of sorts in Kansas City's Sprint Center against the Georgetown Hoyas on Tuesday night. The matchup of the No. 9 Tigers and No. 16 Hoyas features a Mizzou-heavy crowd as the MU campus is less than two hours from KC.

At halftime, the Hoyas lead the Tigers, 54-47.

Early on, it was all Georgetown as the Hoyas were dominating getting a 19-point lead at one point. The Tigers eventually roared back late in the first half going on a 27-15 run. Here are a few thoughts on the game:

Austin Freeman and Marcus Denmon light it up. Freeman has 19 points including five three-pointers while Denmon has added 16 points.

Nice Mizzou run at the end of the first half. Perhaps the momentum changer in the game came on a Marcus Denmon three-pointer, followed by an offensive foul on Georgetown and then Ricardo Ratliffe responding with a three-point play putting Missouri within six at the 1:14 mark in the first half.

Three-pointer shouldn't have counted. Under a minute left in the first half, the Mizzou defense suffocate the Hoyas and made Austin Freeman throw up a desperation three-pointer as time expired on the shot clock. Freeman made the shot and Mizzou coach Mike Anderson was unhappy that it came after the shot clock. Replays showed that the ball was clearly in Freeman's hands as the shot clock went off. The shot should not have counted. For everyone's sanity, I'm hoping those three points don't matter.

The Georgetown Hoyas entered the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. to play the Missouri Tigers on a "neutral floor". If you've watched this game, then you know this crowd is hardly neutral. Missouri's campus is about an hour and a half from Kansas City so the crowd is definitely pro-Mizzou.

Unfortunately the Tigers haven't been giving them much to cheer about. With 11:25 left in the first half, the Hoyas are having no trouble with Mizzou as they lead the Tigers, 23-13. The Hoyas are led by Chris Wright who has seven points completing three-of-four shots and Austin Freeman has added nine. Meanwhile the Tigers' leading scorers are Marcus Denmon and Ricardo Ratliffe with four points each.

The Hoyas started the game hitting on 10 of their first 13 shots so they're playing hot right now. The stats would suggest Georgetown will come back to earth at some point.

Mizzou will have to get English going because, when he's on, Mizzou's a tough team to beat.

The Missouri Tigers will face the Georgetown Hoyas on Tuesday night at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. This is an excellent test for both teams to figure out who they are before getting too deep into the season. The Tigers are ranked 9th in the country while Georgetown comes in at No. 16.

There are plenty of things to look for in this game but this will be the first major test for both teams. For Mizzou, they'll be able to figure out if they really are a top 10 team. For Georgetown, it will be the next in-line of what has been a difficult early schedule.

Eamonn Brennan of ESPN.com has a few things to look for:

There are stylistic things to look for here: Mike Anderson's team is one of the runningest teams in college hoops; John Thompson III's is one of the most methodical. There's also the matter of home vs. neutral court advantage. You can expect Missouri to have a rather large turnout at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, perhaps rivaling Kansas State's march of the purple people eaters at the CBE Classic last week.

I remember the Kansas State Wildcats dominated the crowd at the CBE Classic in the Sprint Center earlier this year. They had a great showing. We'll see if Mizzou fans can do the same. That would definitely be an advantage.

This will be one of the toughest early battles for each team as both try to prove they're for real this year. The Tigers hopped into the top 10 this week sitting at No. 9 in the AP poll while the 5-0 Hoyas are No. 16 in the midst of their difficult early season schedule.

Here's what people are saying about the game:
