Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley confirmed offensive coordinator Charlie Weis is headed to the University of Florida to serve in the same role. Haley also confirmed Weis would stay with the Chiefs throughout the playoffs. He indicated there was family reasons for Weis' departure -- his son will be working in the football office at Florida.

He's going to go to the University of Florida as a coordinator. There was obviously a lot of speculation on that. Charlie and I, the Chiefs, we had a bunch of real productive conversations this weekend -- really productive. This is a bitter sweet deal for me, as the head coach, because Charlie was someone I was obviously really excited to have in here."

So Weis is here for at least one more week, possibly five more weeks, depending on how the Chiefs do in the playoffs. There are already names of possible candidates to replace him popping up.

We know now that Charlie Weis is leaving the Kansas City Chiefs to assume the offensive coordinator position at the University of Florida. He will be with the Chiefs throughout the rest of the playoffs so, in the short-term, nothing really changes. In the long-term, though, they need to find a Weis replacement.

There are names already popping up. Here are the names being passed around in the media -- Nick Sirianni, Mo Carthon, Brian Daboll, Mike MIler and Greg Olson.

Sirianni is the Chiefs offensive assistant and works closely with Matt Cassel. Close enough to the point where some in the organization feel Sirianni deserves a chunk of the credit for Cassel's success, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.

Carthon is the Chiefs assistant head coach and a close friend to Todd Haley. Carthon doesn't specialize in quarterbacks so I'm not sure he would be on the top of the list. Plus, moving him to coordinator would potentially weaken two coaching spots.

Daboll is the offensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns and FOXSports.com reported he is someone to keep an eye on. He worked with the receivers in New England for a couple years while Weis was there.

Miller is the passing game coordinator in Arizona. His name comes up obviously because of his familiarity with Haley in Arizona.

Olson is the Bucs quarterbacks coach. He worked with Haley in Chicago and he was considered a candidate back in 2009 when Haley was first hired.

On Friday there were some reports floating out that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator could be leaving the Kansas City Chiefs to assume the same role at the University of Florida. Multiple reporters said this was the case and it appears an official announcement is coming.

The Associated Press reports Weis has agreed to take the job and a formal announcement wil be made Monday. Weis will continue to coach with the Chiefs throughout the playoffs.

This can't be the distraction the Chiefs wanted starting the playoffs. They will host the Jets, Ravens or Steelers next week in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

Weis lasted a little less than one year in Kansas City. It's not clearly exactly why Weis is leaving. There's a report that his son is also headed to Florida to work in the football office with Will Muschamp. It's also been reported that Weis and Todd Haley had some sort of issues working together.

The Chiefs still have the playoffs to go so they can't worry about this too much. It'll be interesting to see if or how this affects the team on the field.
