The Kansas Jayhawks dropped to sixth in the polls last week after losing their first game of the season. In another highly anticipated battle, Kansas met Kansas State on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse and it was....ugly, at least for Kansas State.

Kansas dropped the Wildcats, 90-66, moving to 20-1 on the season and 5-1 in the Big 12. Texas won on Saturday as well so Kansas is still second in the Big 12.

Kansas simply looked like the better team for 40 minutes. They had a 17 point lead after halftime and by the end of the game it was a 24-point blowout.

The Morris brothers, Marcus and Markieff, were solid as they combined for 30 points and 18 boards. Josh Selby scored 12 points and made all three three-pointers he attempted.

Thomas Robinson had a heavy heart following the death of his mother last week but scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He got a big ovation when he first came into the game and the Kansas players were wearing "LR" patches -- Lisa Robinson.

Kansas shot 61 percent from the field and Kansas State shot 33 percent. That's the game right there. K-State was just missing everything it seemed in the first half. They had layup opportunities and just couldn't convert. Jacob Pullen had 21 points but that came off of 8-of-22 shooting. Kansas State didn't have much go their way.

Kansas State now drops to 14-8 on the season. Is this a tournament team?

The Kansas Jayhawks returned from Washington, D.C., where they attended the funeral of Thomas Robinson's mother. Robinson and his younger sister stayed behind but he will return on Friday and will suit up against Kansas State at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Bill Self spoke after returning from Washington, D.C. (via KUSports.com):

"We all want what's best for Thomas and obviously for his little sister," Self said. "But she has a father and family back home. Thomas obviously, as the big brother, would love to have her here. But that's a family decision. And they're going to have to decide what's best for Jayla."

This has certainly been an emotional week for Kansas so we'll see what kind of shape they're in on Saturday against Kansas State.

Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self and the rest of the team traveled to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to be with Thomas Robinson for the funeral of his mother. They're planning to return on Thursday though Self isn't sure when Robinson will be coming back with them, according to Andy Katz of ESPN.com.

"Athletics can help in the healing process," Self said. "We had no gas in the tank against Saturday [after learning of Lisa Robinson's death]. We needed [Tuesday night]. ...

The reason he wouldn't come back is his 9-year-old sister, who he is now taking care of with the death of his mother. Self said several people have expressed interest in adopting his younger sister, though there are legal issues that must be addressed.

"We hope he comes back Friday but the one reason to stay is to be with his sister and that's an important reason," Self said. "They've got to figure it out and hopefully they can work out a split of time so that she feels comfortable."

The NCAA is working with Kansas on some of the rules associated with how the school can and can't help at this point.

This is about the saddest situation I've seen but I'm sure with the KU support system Robinson (and his sister) will come back from it.

The Kansas Jayhawks players will attend the funeral for the mother of Thomas Robinson today in Washington, D.C. Robinson's mother passed away last weekend and, after playing against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday shortly after hearing the news, Robinson decided to skip the Colorado Buffaloes game Tuesday to be with his family in D.C.

Robinson has also lost two grandparents in the last month so (understandably) he wants to be with his 9-year-old sister.

Bill Self on Monday said:

"The guys left out of there, I think, in a pretty fair frame of mind, but we're an emotionally spent team right now. And if you know Thomas' situation and how much his mother meant to him, in large part because that's all he had. The only set of grandparents he knew died within the last three weeks.

The NCAA has allowed Kansas to pay for funeral expenses, which is a departure from their strict interpretation of NCAA rules in the past.

"The NCAA has been unbelievable," Self said. "They are trying to make as many allowances with the rules as they possibly can. In this situation, when there is as much hardship as there is, I think the NCAA is definitely looking out for the student-athlete welfare."

Kansas will fly out to the services and return on Thursday in time for Saturday's game against Kansas State. It's unclear if Robinson will be back for the Kansas State game.

"He wants to go home to be with his sister," Self told the Journal-World Monday morning. "Yesterday he thought it would be best for him to stay and go with us, but he really feels he needs to be with his sister. He'll go back (to Washington, D.C.) today. The bottom line is Thomas needs to do what he needs to do, and we're all here to support him."
