The Arkansas Razorbacks will potentially play the Missouri Tigers as its future permanent cross-division SEC opponent in football, per a report. South Carolina Gamecocks president Harris Pastides stated that the Texas A&M Aggies and the Gamecocks seem to be the only potential fit as a cross-divisional rival in football. Previously, the Gamecocks would play the Razorbacks as its usual cross-divisional opponent, but things could possibly change.

"Arkansas is a long way off. Arkansas and Missouri have kind of buddied up because they are neighboring states and wanted to play each other," Pastides said. "That left the opportunity for us to think about Texas A&M, I'd love to know what the fans think."

Fayetteville to Columbia, Missouri versus is much closer than Columbia, South Carolina. Cross your fingers Tigers fans, unless you have a ton of frequent flyer miles that will allow you to fly to South Carolina on a consistent basis.

The Missouri Tigers have finally finished the details for their 2012 football season and made the announcement earlier that the Syracuse Orangemen were the final opponents to land on the slate. Given the shifting of conferences not only for the Tigers but many others on the college football landscape, scheduling has been quite difficult for many.

“We are very pleased to get our schedule finalized, and are excited that we could put this kind of schedule together,” Senior Associate Athletic Director Mark Alnutt said in a statement released Friday. “This is a schedule that Tiger fans can be excited about, and we’re very fortunate to be able to put such a quality group of opponents together given the challenging timetable we were faced with.”

The Syracuse Orangemen join an SEC schedule that also includes other non-conference opponents like Southeastern Louisiana to open the season, Central Florida and Arizona State. Last year the Orangemen went 5-7 this year and closed the year with five straight losses after starting a promising 5-2. They failed to make the postseason.

Missouri has completed their inaugural SEC football scheduled, adding Big East (for now) member Syracuse November 17 to round out a 12 game schedule. The date with the Orangemen will not come with a return trip to the Carrier Dome, however.

The addition gives the Tigers five true road games, seven true home games (five of which come in the first seven weeks of the season) and a bye week. In addition to Syracuse, the Tigers' non-conference slate will consist of Southeastern Louisiana, Arizona State and UCF (in Orlando). Here's a complete look at the slate:

Now that the 2011-2012 college football season is officially over, the next big step for the Missouri Tigers is their leap from the Big 12 conference to the SEC. There is nothing to slow that move anymore as the Big 12, via their official website, has announced that they have reached terms with the college for their withdrawal from the conference. Missouri's official date of leaving the Big 12 and heading to the SEC is June 30.

According to the press release, the Tigers will not receiver an estimated $12,410,000 from the revenues that would have been distributed to the school. On top of that, Missouri will pay back any benefits they are scheduled to receive from the Big 12's new TV contract with FOX Sports which goes into effect on July 1 and Missouri will also pay the Big 12 back for its share of the cost of officiating expenses from the previous season, which is estimated to be $500,000.

On the agreement reached between the conference and school, University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton issued the following statement:

"We are pleased to have these issues resolved and we wish the Big 12 and its continuing member institutions the best in the future."

Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC will hit ESPN in the pocketbook if the conference has anything to do with it. Because of expansion, the SEC is expected to ask for an increase in the rights fees of the current 15-year $3 billion deal.

At intervals during such contracts, conferences are allowed periodic "look ins" to address issues such as these when they expand. Typically in these cases, the parties negotiate a rights fee increase. If they can't come to an agreement the issue goes to arbitration. These situations have seldom, if ever, gone to arbitration according to several industry sources.

The SEC, ESPN and CBS are two years into the 15-year deal. Essentially by expanding to 14 teams, the SEC is entitled to more money from its TV contract. The situation seems as thought it will be a standard practice and arbitration isn't likely to be needed in this case. So basically, the SEC decides to expand and the television networks pick up a portion of the cost.

One thing we know: Missouri fans aren't exactly the rowdiest bunch. That wont fly if they want to be big players in the SEC, the biggest and most powerful conference that has ever existed.

Missouri's move to the SEC is official, that much we know. What we don't know is how Missouri will fit in culturally and athletically with the current members of the SEC. The conference is known for its rabid fan bases and almost irrational love for football. Missouri? Not so much.

How can Missouri, a state with a large number of pro teams in multiple sports, fit into a conference filled with states that have a college-football-first attitude?

Here are some suggestions on how Missouri can blend into the SEC as quickly as possible.

1. For football, an SEC loss is is better than any other win.
This is the most important thing to learn as a new member of the SEC: the SEC is king. If a fan from a team from another conference tries to talk any sort of trash about your football team, no matter how Missouri ends up performing in the SEC, you win the argument. You must be convinced that the SEC houses the top 12 (now 14) teams in the nation in any given year. For any other school to even think that they have a right to call themselves better than any of the 14 SEC schools without experiencing the rigors of an 8-game SEC schedule is just crazy.

By outside logic, a team that goes winless in the SEC should probably be considered a bad team, but anyone who goes through that kind of conference schedule should be considered a great team. Do we really want to have a team like Boise State so high in the rankings? Even teams from so-called "major" conferences like the Big Equation (12-2-1+2-1) and Pac-12 don't have any idea how football is played in the SEC. No one can compete.

To really believe this one, you must ignore any previous match-ups between SEC and non-SEC schools. If a non-SEC school wins, it is either luck or the SEC school didn't really care because it was a useless non-conference game. The SEC ALWAYS WINS. This cannot be debated.

2. Learn how to cheer for your conference mates.
Something that SEC fans pride themselves on is being a united conference. This is one of the main reasons that the big guns at Missouri decided to leave the unstable Big 12 and latch on to the SEC. Still, it's going to be a little weird for Missouri fans, who have grown up hating a number of Big 12 teams - including Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska - to learn to love most of their new conference mates.

It's in Missouri fans' DNA to hate. Tiger fans are born with the knowledge that Kansas is the enemy and that nothing they do in the world of sports can be viewed as positive. Missouri fans actually take as much (or even more) pleasure in seeing their rivals lose as they do when their team wins - and this is coming from a student at the University of Missouri.

So now when Missouri fans see a fellow SEC school in a bowl game, it's going to be really, really awkward to cheer when they win (because, as argued before, we know they will). But, as you have learned from your new conference mates, the SEC trumps all, even sports-hate.

3. Proudly boast your traditions and fans as the best of the best.
No matter what SEC school you talk to, they will argue that their traditions are the best. Texas A&M is already one step ahead of Missouri in this regard because of the amount of time they spend talking about traditions (hint: a lot), but I think Tiger fans can learn to be as obnoxious as their new conference mates.

Missouri has the first homecoming (maybe), The Columns, the first and best journalism school, Tap Day and many more minor traditions (like rubbing David R. Francis' nose), so it's not like they don't have enough to brag about. They just have to learn to be as incredibly obnoxious as the rest of the SEC schools are about their traditions and intense fandom.

4. Make sure Mizzou is the center of your life on Saturdays in the fall.
This is one of the most important changes/adjustments Mizzou fans must make. Tiger fans generally like going to Saturday football games and the stadium usually has 65,000+ fans for any game, but the intensity level must pick up. Right now, Missouri fans are not up to par with SEC schools and need to learn how to be better football fans.

No more leaving at halftime to refuel in the parking lots. No more booing your own team when you are up by 10+ points. No more "FIRE PINKEL!" or "FIRE YOST!" shouts after every incomplete pass (that probably wont stop). No more leaving games early because Missouri is either winning or losing by more than 17 points. SEC fans are better than that, so Missouri must now learn to be better than that.

Missouri obviously has a long way to go to be a true SEC school. Becoming more fanatical overall and irrational when talking about other conferences is a good start to fitting right in to its new conference!

Missouri's conference realignment has caught many headlines, but the Tigers' middling basketball and football programs are really quite replaceable by West Virginia.

Well, the proverbial cat is out of the bag, as you have probably noticed. Missouri is headed for the SEC.

In the past few months, our headlines have been dominated by all the key stories of the 2011 fall: Steve Jobs' death, a devastating earthquake in Turkey, the Cardinals winning the World Series, Herman Cain's sexual allegations, and...Missouri leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC?

Colorado, Nebraska, Texas A&M, TCU, Boise State, and West Virginia are a few of the other schools that have either switched conferences recently or who are in the process of doing so. In all those cases, the process was fairly predictable: a few rumors, a confirmation, some bickering between the competing conferences about the terms, then the story dies.

But not so with Missouri. For whatever reasons, this story has consisted of endless speculation, lots of ambiguity, a new story any time someone with a tie to Missouri threw out any sort of opinion on the matter. Our own SB Nation Kansas City has produced its own lengthy story streams about Missouri's conference realignment. Maybe that says something about the media, but I think it also says something about the way the university has handled the situation.

To continue with the analogy Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas started, Missouri has handled this whole thing like the popular girl considering all her prom options. The problem I see is that Missouri isn't the popular girl. She's certainly not the most beautiful in the class.

Men's football and basketball are the biggest sports bread winners, so it makes sense that accountability would start there. Missouri football has beaten Texas and Oklahoma a grand total of once in the last decade. They didn't win the Big 12 Championship once during that span, although they played in the championship twice.

In basketball, the men's team won the Big 12 tournament once in basketball from 2000 to 2010 (even though they did not win the regular season that year). From 2000 to 2010, Missouri men's basketball competed in the NCAA tournament a respectably mediocre six times.

I keep hearing the laments of the Kansas-Missouri rivalry ending, so I decided to do some research. Turns out, the Tigers have lost five straight and ten of their last 11 to the Jayhawks on the basketball court. Since 2000, the Tigers have beaten the Jayhawks six times in 26 attempts. Some rivalry. Sounds like USC-Notre Dame in football.

Consider these facts up against Missouri's likely replacement in the Big 12, West Virginia. The Mountaineers may reside further away and lack some of the emotional history with teams like Kansas and Oklahoma, but you cannot argue with the success of their programs in the last decade.

West Virginia played in and won BCS games in 2004 and 2007. From 2005 to 2008, the Mountaineers won four straight bowl games. In basketball, they may be even more successful. Since 2005, West Virginia has played into the NCAA Sweet 16 four times, the Elite Eight twice, and the Final Four in 2010. During that span, the Mountaineers missed the NCAA Tournament only once, in 2007.

All things considered, the high-maintenance Missouri Tigers really won't be missed all that much by the Big 12.

New rivals. New traditions. New stadiums.

When a program such as the University of Missouri leaves for a new conference there are many new encounters across the board. While football is the revenue sport that drives the decision, it also also noteworthy to look at your current facilities and see how they match up with the facilities of your soon to be brethren in the SEC.

Missouri's Faurot Field, the home football stadium of the Tigers since 1926, has seen many transformations over the years. The current capacity of 71,004 will place them fifth overall of the seven teams in the SEC East Division next season, while it will be 10th overall of the 14 teams in the SEC in 2012. The average size of SEC football stadiums will become 78,505 which means while Mizzou is smaller than average, it still is close enough in terms of size.

Let us not forget that seating hasn't been the only change in recent years at Faurot Field, as the university added a 15-story press box at the beginning of the millennium, field turf in 2003, and a $5 million 30x80 scoreboard in 2009. It will be the seventh largest screen in the SEC, and is the 24th largest in all of FBS football.

Moving to basketball, the average size of an SEC arena in 2012 will be 14,716. MU's Mizzou Arena, which opened in 2014, seats 15,061. The Tigers have a 104-20 all-time since moving to Mizzou Arena from the Hearnes Center, and basketball might be what Missouri has the opportunity to excel the most at in their new conference. After Auburn's Auburn Arena, Missouri will have the second newest basketball facility in the SEC.

In the SEC, baseball is another big sport and Missouri has a newer baseball facility in Taylor Stadium, which opened in 2002. Though it currently would be the second smallest baseball stadium in the SEC with just a 3,031 seat capacity, Missouri has gone to efforts to keep the facilities up to date for the athletes. Recently in 2010, McArtor Baseball Facility opened, giving players a chance to practice indoors all year long. You can read more about the MU baseball facilities here.

While Mizzou may not have the largest facilities in the SEC, they will have one of the larger enrollments and hopefully the fan base will support continued improvements to the facilities to keep up with the rest of their new conference.
