The future Big 12 looks a lot more hopeful than the current Big 12 does. For now, the Big 12 has four teams in the AP Top 25 in the latest poll of college football rankings. Oklahoma State sits at No. 2 and Oklahoma at No. 7. Those are the predictable members of the Big 12 to be ranked. Kansas State is at No. 17 and Texas is at No. 22, but outside of that, the Big 12 is not represented. Baylor is out. Missouri and Texas A&M are long gone. It’s been a disappointing season for the Big 12 overall.

Looking to the future, however, and TCU is ranked No. 26 in the country with the most votes outside of the top 25. West Virginia was also just ranked No. 24 last week, but the upset loss to Louisville ruined that standing. Still that bodes well for the future of the conference in that both the Horned Frogs and Mountaineers bring a brand and respect along with winning programs that should bolster the Big 12’s national standing.

Kansas State is one of the most polarizing teams in the country if you look at the two major college football polls. The Associated Press Top 25 has the Kansas State Wildcats at No. 17 overall. That’s five slots higher than the USA Today/Coaches poll here in Week 11 of the season and it’s clear that opinions are mixed on Bill Snyder’s team.

No matter what happens this season, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have already achieved historical levels of success this season. Their 9-0 record, the most recent win being a offensive shootout against Kansas State that ended 52-45, now has them ranked No. 2 on the most recent AP Top 25 poll, and that’s the highest ranking in the school’s history.

Of course, you won’t find anyone content to let that alone be the greatest success they achieve this season. If OSU wins out, they will undoubtedly be playing for the national championship against LSU (or someone else) on January 9. You can bet Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon and the rest of the Cowboy are setting their sights there, but it’s already been an incredible season for the team nonetheless.

The Associated Press poll has them one spot above Stanford while the results are flipped in the USA Today/Coaches poll.

The two newest entrants into the Big 12 conference amidst all of the realignment talk, Texas Christian University and West Virginia University, are both on the verge of either falling out of the polls entirely or have already done so with football seasons that both schools would likely want to redo.

The West Virginia Mountaineers were just No. 21 last week having already lost two games, but after losing this weekend in an upset to Louisville, their fellow Big East foes, the Mountaineers are now out of the USA Today/Coaches poll. They joined Arizona State as the other team who fell out of the Top 25.

As for TCU, they’ve entered and re-entered the Top 25 this year, but yesterday’s 31-20 win over Wyoming brings them back into the fray at No. 24. Both have been Top 10 powers in recent years, and the Big 12 will likely hope for them to return to their former glory for the sake of conference bragging rights. For now, they’re getting disappointing programs that have lost winnable games.

The Kansas State Wildcats were 7-0 at one point and poised just on the verge of the Top 10 in the national college football rankings. Now they’ve lost two in a row and they stand on the verge of losing any ranking at all. The most recent USA Today/Coaches poll released just this afternoon has the Wildcats currently sitting at No. 22.

Kansas State lost a wild shootout yesterday to the No. 3 team in the country: the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Brandon Weeden proved to be too much for the Wildcats to handle defensively and OSU won after overcoming a deficit with the final score of 52-45. Even still, Bill Snyder’s team proved they can be competitive with any team in the country.

Moving forward, they have Texas A&M, Texas and Iowa State in their last three games as they to improve on their win total and position themselves for a better bowl game.

Stanford and Oklahoma State are both 9-0 and they come in at No. 2 and 3 at this point. Alabama falls to No. 4, just ahead of undefeated Boise State at No. 5.

The Louisiana State Tigers are now the only official team with any first place votes in the country after last night's defensive slugfest against Alabama that resulted in an odd 9-6 win. In doing so, they eliminated any other team from discussion for the No. 1 spot in this week's college football rankings -- at least in the USA Today/Coaches poll. That's likely to be the same for the Associated Press as well.

Stanford and Oklahoma State are both 9-0 and they come in at No. 2 and 3 at this point. Alabama falls to No. 4, just ahead of undefeated Boise State at No. 5. The rest of the Top 10 reads Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Virginia Tech and Clemson who all have one loss apiece. The only other unbeaten is Houston at 9-0 who are ranked just outside the Top 10 at No. 11.
